When is Rehab necessary?
While many patients with FND can be managed through outpatient clinics, some require more intensive support. Inpatient Neuro-Rehabilitation is often recommended for those with severe mobility issues, frequent seizures, or when outpatient treatment has not provided significant improvement.
Intensity & Duration
Programs typically last 2 to 6 weeks, providing daily therapy sessions that 'saturate' the brain with normal movement patterns.
The MDT Approach
You are surrounded by a team of neurologists, physios, OTs, and psychologists all speaking the same 'FND language'.
The Four Pillars of FND Rehab
Modern FND rehab is based on a structured framework designed to reset the brain's internal model of the body.
- Education: Deepening your understanding of the "software" nature of the problem.
- Physical Retraining: Constant graded exposure to normal gait and movement.
- Psychological Awareness: Identifying the "automatic" thoughts or stresses that trigger symptoms.
- Goal Setting: Focusing on specific functional wins, like "walking to the garden" or "making a cup of tea."
The 'Safe to Move' Message
What are the outcomes?
Significant Improvement
Studies show that over 70% of patients who complete a specialized FND rehab program see significant improvements in their mobility and quality of life, which are often maintained long-term.
